Soft Islands in Summer, Sharp Questions in Autumn – newsletter #13

Our newsletter is out and it travels between Wroclaw and Barcelona.

The first stop is Klub pod Kolumnami, where the Wroclaw Institute of Culture turned a whole building over to children. From 16 June to 31 July, Wyspy Tuli Tuli (Tuli Tuli Islands), a polysensory exhibition by Patrycja Mastej for children aged 0–10 and their grown-ups, invited visitors to touch, climb and lie down on its soft plush archipelago, with a weekly programme of performances and creative sessions around it. In September, researchers from the University of Wrocław brought EXPECT_Art to the 29th Lower Silesian Science Festival with two parallel events: a lecture for teachers on art-based methods for culturally diverse classrooms, including a first look at the project’s free teacher handbooks, and AI under the microscope: can we trust it?, a hands-on workshop where teenagers tested how easily their choices can be nudged.

The issue closes in Barcelona, where researchers, educators, artists and activists gathered for the symposium The Social Turn in the Arts and Critical Cultural Literacy, organised by the University of Barcelona’s Esbrina Research Group and Museu Tàpies, where the team also presented EXPECT_Art’s aims and main results.

Our final newsletter will follow soon, bringing together the project’s results and the resources it leaves behind.
