As part of our project, we finished this year’s theatre club at one of the Slovenian primary schools with the theatre play “Fairy Tales in Action”.
The creative process started with the children’s idea to create their own fairy tale together. From the first ideas, conversations and imagination, a story gradually emerged, which the children developed and expanded from meeting to meeting. The story then became a dramatic text, written in dialogues and scenes, which was created through improvisation, conversation and joint theatre work, under the mentorship and dramaturgy of Tina Rataj. The final step of the process was the staging of the play, which the children presented in late February at Vetrinjski dvor mansion, sharing it with the local community.
The involvement of the environment also gave the process a special charm. The children themselves came up with the costume ideas, co-created the set and took an active part in all the decisions. At the end of the performance, the grandmother of one of the pupils baked and brought apple strudels, just as they appear in the story, symbolically linking the stage and the real world. Thank you to the children for their courage, creativity and imagination, and to everyone who supported the process.
